Did you know that on April 8th, 2014 Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 will reach the end of support from Microsoft? How will this impact the average business owner? Staying current with the latest and greatest features and being compatible with your key business applications going forward is always a plus, but the real risk comes in the open playground for hackers and malware pushers. Since the old operating system is not being patched beyond the 4/8/2014 date, hackers and malware developers are patiently waiting for the date to expire before leveraging any unpatched exploits in the operating system. This places your company data at a higher risk. There are few great options out there to get current.
1) Implement a life cycle policy to routinely keep your hardware and operating systems current.
2) Leverage a subscription program such as Microsoft’s Windows Intune
3) Take advantage of Microsoft’s Software Assurance programs for any eligible software applications or operating systems
