I had the opportunity to visit with a prospective new client recently. They are a very successful middle-market business.
A couple of things stood out during my meeting. The first thing is that this was truly a family-owned and operated business. The father and two sons are in key leadership positions and I met with the three of them. When we briefly discussed the family business dynamic, I sensed some discomfort around the table. While we all chuckled and laughed, it never ceases to amaze me how the vast majority of family-owned businesses have some level of dysfunction present.
Secondly, and more importantly, it was clear to me they operated under the same core values as we do here at CDH. The values of integrity, growth and individual responsibility. This made our conversation very refreshing and I felt like I made a deeper initial connection with them. At CDH, we believe that we will be successful and create long-term relationships with those who share our values.
I’m looking forward to the opportunity to win their business and build a long-term relationship with them. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with others who believe what we believe.
What are your personal values? I’d love to hear from you. Send me an e-mail or post a comment below.
